Topic of the Lecture
This lecture will provide an overview of the economic literature on return migration. It will summarise the theoretical determinants of return migration and the empirical evidence on the drivers of return migration. It will then discuss the main implications of return migration such as the evidence on the importance of return migration in entrepreneurship, human capital accumulation, diffusion of knowledge and transfer of norms to country of origin. It will also discuss the empirical challenges of measuring the determinants and consequences of return migration.
