The year 2050 is expected by climate scientists to be a turning point in the history of our planet.

As the sea slowly but surely warms, the ice in Antarctica is visibly melting. Adventurous researchers have always felt a certain attraction to this vast expanse of ice.

The feature-length documentary film 2050 of 114 minutes not only tells the story of modern climate scientists at the Belgian Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Station, but also catapults the viewer back to the year 1898, when the Belgian explorer Adrien de Gerlache led the very first overwintering mission to the South Pole with his ship, the Belgica. Eric Goens, known for television programs in Belgium such as Het huis and Het conclaaf, is making a name for himself as an international filmmaker with 2050. Together with his crew, he braved temperatures as low as -30°C to capture stunning footage of an icy landscape threatened by the changing climate.
