What is the Fast Forward Science competition all about?

Passion for research, for innovative multimedia formats and for communication - the Fast Forward Science competition honors people who are not only passionate about science themselves, but can also inspire others about it. Fast Forward Science calls for people to produce and submit social media posts about scientific topics. Awards will be given to posts that showcase current research, are presented in a way that is understandable and appropriate for the target audience, and provide the necessary "aha" effect. A special challenge is that the contributions are entertaining despite the hard facts and ideally manage to enter into a dialog with the viewers.

Here you can find the submissions and winners of the last edition.

Who can participate?

Whether you are a student, postdoc, vlogger or communicator, Fast Forward Science calls on anyone interested in science to produce and submit a contribution. This can also be done in teams: since production and research are often teamwork, up to six people can submit something together.

How can you participate?

All information on participation and registration can be found here: Participate

The deadline for submission is February 7, 2023.

What are the categories and prizes?

The main competition is all about moving images. Here you can submit your video in the three main categories Young Scientist Award, Scientist & Research Institution Award and Tandem Award, depending on your professional or scientific background. Entries must have appeared on a social media platform between February 9, 2022, and February 7, 2023, and be publicly accessible via a link. The topic is free to choose, but the focus should be your own research or scientific interest. In addition, there are two special awards, Open Box Special and Audio Special, which recognize other online scientific formats. The Short & Crisp Award honors non-German language videos and will be awarded together with the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival. The special categories are open to submissions from all interested parties, whether scientists* or not. In the main competition, first place winners will each receive 3000 €, second place winners 2000 € and third place winners 1000 €. In the special prizes, only the first-place winners will receive €1000, and in Short & Crisp the prize money is €3000.

The awards ceremony will take place in June 2023 at the SILBERSALZ Festival in Halle.
